Special Olympics is changing the way people with Intellectual disabilities are seen in the world. Join us and help create a more inclusive community where you live.
Through the power of sport, athletes with intellectual disabilities show
That they can compete in 23 Olympic-type sports
That they can train and improve their skills
That they can develop teamwork and communications skills
Check out our Athlete page to learn more about how to get involved. All athletes can begin training at age 6, and can then compete in state-level competition at age 8.
Coaches provide the instruction and guidance to support athletes and partners train and compete. To become either an assistant or head coach, visit our Coaches page.
Please visit our Corporate Partnerships page to learn more about how you can support inclusion in your community.

Without our day of event volunteers, no SOMA sports or fundraising event would be possible! We have over 245 sporting and fundraising events, see which one works for you! Learn about available Volunteer Opportunities and register for the next event in your area!
Special Olympics Massachusetts receives very little federal or state funding and is almost entirely dependent on individual and corporate donations to support its programs. No athlete ever pays a fee to participate in Special Olympics. Our goal is to reach out and increase the number of participants each year while maintaining the quality of our training programs and competitions already benefiting so many Massachusetts citizens with intellectual disabilities. Like any team, we can't do it alone. Thank you for your support!
