Bio-Ball 2020

Benefitting Special Olympics Massachusetts

June 27, 2020
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Cambridge Rindge & Latin School, Cambridge, MA

We wanted to share that the decision has been made to postpone the 2020 Bio-Ball Basketball Tournament, originally scheduled for March 21st. The event has been re-scheduled for Saturday, June 27th and will take place at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School.  Because of the incredible relationships we enjoy with our teams and sponsors, we have had an ongoing open conversation about the status of the event in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in and around greater Boston.  A number of our teams and sponsors have issued work-from-home orders to their employees and cancelled all company events for the coming weeks, many through May 31st.  Since our event is endorsed as an employee engagement opportunity by most of these corporations, this meant that a number of our partners would not be able to participate this year, if we held the event as originally planned. Since Bio-Ball has become a true community, we could not imagine holding the event without some of our most committed partners. And for this reason, we have decided to postpone Bio-Ball until our entire community can participate.

This decision was not made lightly, but we know that it will allow for the event to be the best it can be. We look forward to continuing to work with everyone over the next few months as we gear up for an amazing event.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

The Competition:

Bio-Ball is a one day basketball tournament involving 20 local biotech and pharma companies and 20 Special Olympics Massachusetts basketball teams. The 20 participating companies each field a basketball team. That team is then paired with a local Special Olympics Massachusetts basketball team forming an integrated and unified team. The 20 "teams" are then divided into two divisions and spend the day competing in both individual skills and 5 on 5 competition. At the end of the day, a championship game determines the winner of Bio-Ball.

All participating biotech teams fundraise for Bio-Ball throughout the year. Their fundraising doesn't stop until the second the tournament begins. The top 4 fundraising teams, and the 2 teams with the highest percentage of fundraising growth from the previous year, get to join us for a day at TD Garden playing pick-up games on the parquet followed by a reception. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts!

The event is sponsored by providers that support the local biotech community. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts!
